Saint Mary of the Assumption Church

Built in the early 1500s on a small oratory by the will of the Cesi community, it was restored in the 18th century and completely renovated during the 1900s.

Outside, to the left of the main portal is another walled-up one, the lunette of which shows traces of a fresco, practically no longer visible, which represented Our Lady between the saints Sebastian and Rocco. However the coat-of-arms of the Spoleto Municipality is set into the wall on the right of the portal.

Inside the church, with a single nave, are various works of art including the magnificent altarpiece “Our Lady Enthroned with Child between the saints” dated 1308 and executed by the “Master of Cesi”, an artist who was given this name on the basis of this work, a 16th century fresco by Papacello, a 17th century wooden crucifix, an 13th century walnut choir and canvasses attributed to Bartolomeo Barbiani and Barla.

The organ made in 1836 by Francesco Pasquetti is an instrument of great artistic value.

Notable works of art are housed in the parish church museum.
