This area is characterised by luxurious vegetation which extends along the course of the River Nera, and its majestic Marmore Waterfalls, a perfect fusion between the power of nature and the human ability to regulate it.
This area is a true and proper natural and cultural treasure, part of the Nera River Park, which protects the beauty of the environment and the historical-cultural and archaeological heritage that characterizes it. Here you will find geographical features covered in woods, rocky walls, and stretches where nature becomes more gentle and relaxing, together with historical evidence of different eras, from pre-Roman cult centres to mediaeval castles, up to villages perched on high which are dotted over the natural setting.
The mystical atmosphere that pervades these places is demonstrated by the hermitages and convents found here, and especially by the Abbey of St. Peter’s in the Valley, founded in 703.
La storia più recente del territorio si legge attraverso alcuni dei suoi simboli, come la monumentale centrale idroelettrica di Galleto, ancora in funzione e progettata dall'architetto Cesare Bazzani alla fine degli anni '20 del secolo scorso.
